Belchertown. On the ground.

Owner. Operator. On-site, every day.

Jake Lafleche started RJL Contracting in 2020 and has run it the same way ever since. His father Rene is on every job too. Rene has been in the trade for over 30 years and brings hard-earned knowledge to every project they take on together.

Jake estimates the job, runs the equipment, and is the person you call if something isn't right. There's no crew manager in the middle, no layer between you and the people actually doing the work.

Jake holds an Eljen Septic System Certification covering installation requirements and Massachusetts regulatory standards, and installs conventional, mounded, pressure dosed, and alternative system types depending on what the engineer specs. RJL handles installs only. Need a Title 5 inspection or a system design? They work closely with trusted local engineers and can recommend the right person. RJL carries full general liability and workers' compensation coverage on every job.

When you call, you get Jake and Rene.

Larger excavation outfits win bids and hand the work to subcontractors. You meet the salesperson, sign a contract, and a crew you've never spoken to shows up. If something goes sideways, getting the original estimator back on site is a project in itself.

That's not how RJL works. Jake is the one who walks your property, gives you a number, and puts the machine in the ground. Rene is there alongside him. Whatever they tell you on estimate day, the same two people are accountable for it on completion day.

For most homeowners and small businesses, this is a one-shot opportunity to get septic or site prep done right. Jake and Rene treat it that way. They don't leave a job until it's finished correctly.

Digging Western Mass. dirt.

Western Massachusetts has some of the most varied soil conditions in New England. Rocky highland in the hill towns, heavy river valley clay near the Connecticut, sandy glacial till across the central plateau. Jake and Rene have dug in all of it, and they know what they're likely to find before the first bucket breaks ground.

Septic work is the most regulated excavation work there is. Every system requires a soil evaluation, a Board of Health permit, a licensed engineer's design, and a certified installer. Jake handles the install. RJL does not do Title 5 inspections or system design. Need an engineer? They work with trusted local firms and will point you to the right person.

Beyond septic, RJL handles commercial site prep, foundations, utility trenching, drainage, tank removal, driveways, and grading. Various services. Two operators who show up and do the work.
