Septic work built for Western Mass terrain.

Western Massachusetts soil is rocky, wet, and unforgiving. A septic system installed without real knowledge of local conditions won't last. RJL Contracting has installed and replaced systems across Hampshire and Hampden counties since 2020. We work with conventional gravity systems, mounded systems for high water table sites, pressure dosed systems, and alternative system types, based on what your engineer specs and the site demands. RJL is Eljen certified.

RJL handles the excavation and installation. Jake and Rene are on every job. Not a sub. Not a crew you've never met.

Whether your system failed a Title 5 inspection, is showing signs of failure, or you're putting in a new system on raw land, RJL handles the install. Need a design or a Title 5 inspection? We don't do those, but we work with engineers we trust and can recommend the right person.

What we handle

  • New system installation on raw land or developed lots
  • Full system replacement after Title 5 failure
  • Repair and component replacement
  • Perc test site preparation
  • Board of health permit coordination
  • Pump station installation
  • Distribution box work
  • Leaching field installation and replacement
  • Engineer referrals for design and Title 5 work (we don't do these ourselves)

Title 5 and what it means for your property.

Title 5 is the Massachusetts environmental code that governs septic system design, installation, and inspection. When a property is sold, transferred, or the system is identified as failing, a Title 5 inspection is required. If the system fails, it must be repaired or replaced before the transaction can proceed.

RJL works with licensed inspectors and Title 5-approved engineers to move your project from failed inspection to permitted new system efficiently. We know the local board of health offices in Belchertown, Amherst, Northampton, Ware, South Hadley, and across the region. That means fewer delays and fewer surprises.

What is Eljen Certification?

  • State-recognized installer credential for Massachusetts septic work
  • Covers installation requirements and Massachusetts regulatory standards
  • Required by many town boards of health for permitted work
  • Demonstrates competency in proper installation procedures
  • Jake Lafleche holds the certification and installs Eljen alongside other major system types

From site visit to final inspection.

Site Assessment

We walk the property, review the lot layout, assess soil conditions, and identify site constraints before any work begins or any commitments are made.

Engineer and Perc Test Coordination

We work with your licensed engineer to coordinate the percolation test, review the design, and make sure the system is sized and sited correctly for your lot.

Permit and Board of Health Approval

We prepare documentation and work with the local board of health to get the permit issued. We know the offices and the process in every town we serve.

System Installation

Jake runs the equipment. We excavate, prepare the leaching field, install the tank and all components to spec. Jake is on site every day until it's done.

Final Inspection and Sign-off

We coordinate the final inspection with your engineer and the board of health, and make sure you have all documentation in hand at completion.
